A. Lange & Söhne has introduced a 950-platinum Datograph Perpetual to mark two decades of the model, which first appeared in 2006. The manufacturer has not announced a price in its release.

The mechanism remains the point

The watch combines a column-wheel chronograph, perpetual calendar and Lange’s outsize date. Its hand-wound L952.1 movement contains 556 parts; the brand says the moon-phase display would be out by one day only after 122.6 years of continuous running.

The 41 mm case and five-row bracelet are platinum. Eleven hand-applied baguette diamonds, totalling about 0.13 carats, punctuate the black dial: two sit at 12 o’clock, while the 4 and 8 positions make room for subsidiary dials. It is a collector’s object, but the engineering—not merely the precious metal—is the story.
